PG-13

We spent Easter weekend up in Prince George. When we tell people that, or when we told people we were planning to go, the common reaction is for them to ask why. They often ask it with disdain. I can see where they're coming from, but we had a good reason, Jessie lives there.

When I tell people my sister lives in Prince George they usually ask why . . .

We spent a healthy part of our trip sitting in Jessie's apartment watching the NCAA Men's Basketball Tourney, but we also got out and explored the city and surrounding area a bit. The highlights:

The view at the Purden ski hills.

Purden: The skiing at Purden is never going to rival the other famed slopes of British Columbia, but it was great for a bunch of novices like us. It was quiet, there were never any lines for the lifts and the staff were awesome.

The girls leaving Purden.

Dinner at Winston's.

The Cuisine: While eating at Jessie's apartment consisted primarily of frozen pizza, we had a remarkable meal at Winston's Dining Room in the Coast hotel. I had a halibut filet with scallops and it just might have been the most delicious meal I've ever had in a restaurant. Even the rice was excellent though I didn't have the stomach to finish it after gorging on tasty rolls and fancy butters.

Caveman!

The Guest Star: We spent a lot of time drinking and watching basketball and this inevitably leads to silliness. Somehow we were captivated by the hair of a UPS pitchman whom we dubbed "Caveman." Any time Caveman appeared on the screen everyone had to take a pull of their drink. Brenda had the cunning to film the Caveman commercial which meant that she could then unleash him at her whim.

Jessie showing off her gifts.

Jessie's Birthday: It wasn't Jessie's birthday while we were there but we celebrated it anyways. This section is only here as an excuse to run the following scary picture.

Jessie has the shining.

Mr. Prince George in all his glory.

The Local Culture: We were told by former Prince George residents that the one thing we had to see was Mr. Prince George. I can see why. He is clearly awesome. My friend Donovan lived in Prince George for seven years and couldn't think of anything else in town we should see or do, so I guess that's it then, we have truly experienced Prince George.

Dignity and Assman, finally together.

  • I can't believe that Assman's Chapel was not a place you were told you had to see - that too is clearly a highlight!
